On September 13, 2007 Judge Gary D Stott issued an arrest warrant (number 98119093) for Angel based on the Affidavit and Order for Warrant of Arrest that were filed by the Springville Police Department.1 Bail was set at $25,000 and could be served at any time day or night with extradition authorized.

Before the warrant was issued, Officer Tipton checked the last know address for Angel and was unable to locate him at that location. He called Angels’ current employer Precision Coatings in Springville. They indicated that Angel had called in the following morning and told them he quit. He also called Low Book Sales in Lindon Utah, the location where Angel had purchased his car several days earlier. They verified that the car was sold to Angel and verified his date of birth.
Tipton then checked another residence that he was told that Angel may be living at. There was a car at the residence, but after checking the plate it returned with a non familiar name connecting it with Angel. He asked the Orem Police Department to check the residence later for the suspect vehicle, but when they checked the vehicle was not there.
Otero, one of Angels victims was interviewed and was able to show Tipton where Angel was currently living. Otero told him he was living with his brother, and that the Orem residence was where Angel moved from over a month ago. Otero also discussed both of his girl friends with Tipton.
Sida was still in the ICU due to the injuries suffered from the attack. His injuries included a fractured neck and the left side of his face had been fractured. The ICU was worried about the stab wound to his abdomen. The wound was fairly deep and they were worried about clotting.
Tipton talked to Angel’s brother’s girl friend and she had his brother return Tipton’s call. Tipton was told that he had not seen Angel today. He then gave Tipton Angel’s full name and data of birth and informed him that Angel did not have a Utah Drivers license, but did have a Kansas Drivers License.
On September 6th Tipton started to track down the girl friends to see if he could locate Angel at one of their houses. With the information of where the 15 year old American Fork girl friend’s mom worked, he located Pauline when she came to work. She verified that her daughter was seeing a male by the name of Angel, but they have not heard from him for three days.
Tipton was able to connect with Gustavo, Angel’s brother and he reported that he has not seen his brother for the last few days. Gustavo also indicated that he has not been answering his cellular telephone. Gustavo told him that Angel does not stay anywhere else, and usually returns home to sleep, but it can be real late at times.
On September 7th Tipton sat in front of Angel’s house in the early morning to see if there was any indications that he was there. Another Detective, Sorensen also check the residence that day as well as went to pick up the written statement from Otero. Otero told detective Sorensen that Angel had called and told Precision Coating that he had quit due to a family problem and had to leave the state.2
Tipton contacted the state of Kansas Driver’s License Division. He was able to get the driver’s license photo for Angel. (I am trying to get a copy of that drivers license photo)
On September 10th Tipton was able to talk to Sida concerning the events of the 6th and if he could give a written statement. Sida indicated that the las thing he remembered was getting into Angels car to return home and the waking up in the hospital.3
On September 11th Angel leaves a note on the car window of Sida’s brother. Tipton was able to contact the brothers girl friend, and was able to pick up the note. The note was put on his car while he was shopping at Macey’s in Provo. The note said, “Call Angel Juan friend he wants to know how your brother is. His number is [redacted]”. The brother stated that he thinks one of Angel’s girl friends place the note on the car.
On September 18th the Utah County Sheriff Office entered Angel’s license plate and vehicle information into NCIC.
On November 11th Angel is stopped in Kansas for speeding in Arkansas City, Kansas by Officer Sheen of the Arkansas City Police Department. The arrest warrant from Utah was found when the NCIC database was searched due to the traffic stop. Angel was then arrested and placed in jail waiting for transport to Utah. He was then transported to the Winfield, Kansas jail until November 20th when he was transported to Utah.
According to the booking report4 by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office he was listed as a transient with a birth city of Mexico City, Mexico. He was listed as Catholic with a High School education and currently unemployed. His emergency contact listed his brother, but the address given was in Arkansas City, KS.
