A 1082 is called over the radio. The suspects have been put into custody. Officer Gurney hears code 82, as he gets to Mona, he turns off his lights, slows down and pulls over on the side of I-15. At this time, he knew that Deputy Sherwood, and officer he knew was the one who called for help in Santaquin. He must pause to collect his thoughts and recenter himself before he drives on.
Meagan Transported to Detention Center
After Meagan was questioned in the Santaquin Police Department by Deputy Patty Johnston she was taken in custody by Sergeant Hurst who the duty sergeant for the Santaquin City Police Department at the time.1 Sergeant Hurst was called into work early to perform the transport. Meagan was to be transported from Santaquin to Mountain View Hospital in Payson for medical evaluation and then to Slate Canyon Detention Center in Provo Utah.
Meagan told the officers in Santaquin that she was hungry, so they brought her some snacks and water. Meagan ate part of the snacks and was allowed to take the rest of the snacks in the car for the trip. Sergeant Hurst then handcuffed Meagan in the front with the standard issue body chain, and double locked and checked the cuffs for tightness.
They arrived at Mountain View Hospital where she was examined by medical staff. Sergeant Hurst stood on the other side of the hospital curtain during the examination. Meagan asked for some pain medication for her wisdom teeth but did not complain of any other issues. Hurst did hear her say at one point, “I was in the wrong place, with the wrong person, at the wrong time”. She was given Motrin and several packages of saltine crackers after she told the medical staff she was hungry.
She was then transported to Slat Canyon Detention Center where she was then released from Sergeant Hurst’s custody and given to the custody of the Detention Center. Segreant Hurst noted that she never asked any questions about her being in custody, where they were going, or what was going to happen to her. When they arrived at the Detention Center she once again told them she was hungry and they brought her the standard fast food cheese burger and tater-tots. Meagan quickly consumed them without hesitation.
