Cory B Wride was hired by the Utah County Sheriffs office on October 22, 1994 with a Sheriff I job title. He completed his probation period in May of 1995. On February 2, 1995 Cory Wride was issued a certificate for fulfilling “the requirements as set forth in the minimum Standards and Training Act for Peace Officers in the State of Utah.1
In September 1997 Wride was promoted to Sheriff III and passed his promotion trial period in March of 1998. He was promoted to Sergeant in September of 2007. All of his reviews were positive, and usually were accompanied with a pay increase.2
Wride also at one time worked part-time as a security guard for the University Mall in Orem, Ut in 2001. He was hired to provide security for the University Mall management. he worked 4-8 hours per week and the hours varied based on when he was needed. 3
In the application for promotion to sergeant for the Utah County Sheriff’s office, Cory described his duties for his job tile of Deputy Sheriff III as well as Deputy Sheriff I.4
Deputy Sheriff III
“Provides high visual profile to county citizens/maintain security for public and private property. Enforces traffic laws, issues citations, responds to calls from public and criminal and civil problems. Makes arrests for criminal activity. Perform first aid and CPR. Interviews and interrogates suspects. Collects, photographs, and marks evidence for crime scenes. Notifies family members of deceased individuals. Prepares records for court and testifies in court. Responds to SWAT team calls. Conducts search of vehicles and buildings. Makes public presentations. Trains and cares for police service dog and provides canine services including tracking, drug search, apprehension. “
Deputy Sheriff I
“Transports inmates/criminals to court or jail. provide security for judge and individuals in court including observing, arresting and detaining persons who pose threat. Responds to emergency situations and provides CPR and first aid. Screens persons entering court for weapons. Serves civil warrants, court papers, felony and misdemeanor warrants.”
