Meagan Dakota Grunwald (17) is detained and cited, by officer Kevin Easter1 of the Draper Police, for failure to yield in a vehicle while performing a left turn, a class C misdemeanor. The violation caused an accident with injuries and occurred at 12300 South 300 East in Draper Utah. On November 15, 2013, bail in the amount of $120.00 was forfeited by the Draper Justice Court. The following reconstruction was created based on the incident report and witness statements from the Draper Police department.
At 7:35 am on October 21, 2013, Meagan was driving a Silver Toyota Corolla northbound on 300 East making a left-hand turn onto 12300 South. Allison was driving a Black Jeep Wrangler southbound through the intersection of 300 East and 12300 South when she was hit by Meagan’s Corolla. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable. Police arrived and called fire and rescue. Meagan was complaining of neck pains, so she was transported to the local hospital for x-rays. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the officer cited Meagan for failure to yield when turning left. The officer was unable to give the citation to Meagan at the hospital; she was in radiology at the time. The citation was given to her father Jerry at the hospital. Allison, the driver of the Wrangler, was not injured in the accident.
A witness of the accident made this statement to police, “I was topped at a light on 12300 S 300 E in Draper Utah. I saw a black jeep wrangler going through the light on 300 N that was green. The silver Toyota car turned left into her car. She was driving North the Jeep was driving South. The silver car ran into the Jeep. Lady in the silver car complained of injury. I called 911.”2
